Digital Fiction Factory (DFF) is a creative partnership between the BBC, Channel Four and Creative England to pioneer new approaches to multi-layered TV viewing. Three distinct projects were commissioned by DFF to design and create new ways of engaging with broadcast TV. The aim of the projects was to look at how a four screen approach (mobile, tablet, desktop and Smart TV) can be used to revolutionise the way viewers watch and interact with TV content.

Redemption Media was approached and appointed by DFF to act as IPTV (Smart TV) Consultants for all three projects. We used our expertise to critique and shape the ideas being put forward so that the final product was optimised for use on Smart TVs.

We used our knowledge and experience of connected TVs, apps, broadcast and our cross-platform expertise to steer these projects and make sure that:

• The user experience will be outstanding

• The end product will take advantage of the cutting-edge features and functionality of Smart TVs

• The project will enable multiple users to share the multi-layered TV experience

• The user will have a seamless experience across the four screens

• Connectivity and communication between devices were fully considered at every stage

• The design of the final product took into account current limitations with Smart TV technology.
